On completion of these modules, you will have foundational knowledge with: a) key concepts and principles underpinning tertiary teaching and learning; b) the higher education regulatory environment; c) the implications of University of Canberra strategies and policies for teaching practice; and, be able to apply this knowledge in relation to your teaching and learning experience and practice, for the enhancement of student learning; and, 2. Engage with and respond productively to peer review of your teaching; and, 3. Reflect critically on your practice as a tertiary educator, and communicate your reflective insights to others. Overview of participant learning and assessment journey Your journey as a CoT participant involves engaging in and completing a series of modules, submitting the relevant assessment for each one via this site, and finally completing a capstone activity that demonstrates your understanding as a whole. The modules for CoT are from the 'Contemporary Approaches to University Teaching' (CAUT) MOOC and are included in this site. Your learning will also be supported by ongoing conversations with your program director/mentor, who will be involved in your capstone assessment. It is recommended that you create your own ‘portfolio’ and journal to help collect together your thoughts, responses, and submissions as you proceed through the modules. For example, you could use Sharepoint / Onedrive or a Mahara ePortfolio to do this. As you progress, remember to keep a copy of your submissions – these can form an ongoing teaching ePortfolio and be used in discussions with your program director/mentor. You will undertake two stages of activities and assessment for CoT, as follows: Stage 1: Completion of all 12 modules of CoT and the assessment task for each. Instructions on how to complete the assessment for each module is provided in this Canvas site within the Assignment dropbox for each corresponding assessment task. These are located at the end of each module, or you can navigate to see them in a series by clicking on the 'Assignments' tab to your left. Top tip: After you have submitted each assessment item, click 'Next' at the bottom right of the Assignment page to access the portal to request and receive your digital badge for module completion. Please note, you will not be able to access this unless you have submitted your work. Stage 2: Capstone with Completion Certificate After completing all 12 CoT modules and receiving all 12 badges as above, you will then complete a capstone for which an overarching CoT completion certificate is awarded once successfully achieved. The CoT Capstone consists of the following components: A peer observation/review of one teaching activity (of the participant) by their mentor with a report of 1 page maximum in length using a template provided by Teaching & Learning; plus, A short reflection on the peer review process, core insights from CoT, and participant Interface/ISEQ usage of 1 page maximum in length; plus, A short verbal presentation of 5 minutes maximum in length at a CoT ‘Assessment Gathering’ based on their self-reflection to a gathered audience of other participants plus assessors. The materials for each of the assessment tasks above will be submitted via the relevant Assignment dropbox in this site. Assessment Process for the CoT 'Assessment Gathering' Each participant will have two assessors: 1) Their Program Director, and 2) one CELTS member from a different faculty for the purposes of moderation. Assessment criteria and rubric will be provided in this Canvas site. Sign-off and joint agreement is required by both assessors for completion. Where there is irresolvable disagreement an assigned member of T&L will moderate. Following successful completion of the capstone, a digital badge and CoT certificate will be awarded recognising your achievement.
